Taking your child to the dentist – where to start?

The first visit to the dentist is very important. It should be as memorable as possible for our children and should not evoke any negative associations.

A child’s bad first experience with a doctor often causes fear of the dentist in the future (known as dentophobia).

A child’s first visit to the dentist should take place before any dental problems arise. This visit should be a check-up combined with preventive treatment.

The best time to visit the dentist is at a time of day when the child is usually in a good mood, not sleepy or tired.

The beginning of a child’s visit to the ARTIMEDICA clinic is fun, getting to know the staff and the equipment in the office. Together, we look at the teeth and talk in a way that children can understand about their diseases and treatment. All this is done in order to  achieve what is most important – the trust of our little patients.

Cooperation with parents

Treating children with a smile is only possible in cooperation with responsible parents.

Before the visit, please talk to your child about the importance of taking care of their teeth. Please explain to your children what will happen during the visit, but without going into unnecessary details about the treatment. We will take care of that ourselves.

It is enough for children to be ready to have their teeth checked by a dentist to see if they are healthy.

A good idea is to play dentist and read books about dental prevention and treatment for children.

When talking to your child, please do not use words such as drilling, pulling or filling teeth. They unnecessarily cause negative associations and fear of treatment in children.

Our children are excellent observers looking for role models. Therefore, you should be prepared for the possibility that during the next visit, mum and dad will have to be the first to show their teeth to the dentist with a smile to set a good example for their little ones.
