Hypersensitivity

In some cases, after conservative treatment, there may be short-term, temporary hypersensitivity of the teeth to hot and cold stimuli and discomfort when biting.

If the symptoms persist after 24-48 hours, please contact your dentist.

Eating

After tooth filling procedures using modern light-curing materials, there are generally no contraindications to eating and drinking immediately after leaving the dentist’s office.

However, in the case of front tooth restorations and certain materials used, your dentist may recommend restricting your food intake for several hours.

After endodontic treatment (root canal treatment)

During endodontic treatment, until the tooth crown is completely restored, you should not bite or chew food on the side of the treated tooth.

After root canal treatment, you may or may not experience pain, which is temporary and should subside within 1-3 days.

If in doubt, please contact your doctor.

Post-operative care

Post-treatment swelling/pain

In the case of surgical procedures, tooth extractions and gum surgery, post-treatment swelling is to some extent inevitable and natural. Pain may also occur. In accordance with the doctor’s recommendations, you should then:

  • take painkillers/anti-inflammatory/anti-swelling medication and antibiotics (in our clinic, you will receive painkillers before or immediately after the procedure to minimise discomfort),
  • apply cold compresses immediately after the procedure, with a few minutes’ breaks, to avoid swelling due to tissue hypothermia.

Numbness persisting after extraction

In the case of mandibular molar extraction, temporary loss of sensation is possible.

Bleeding

After surgical procedures, slight bleeding and blood-stained saliva may occur. This should subside within 2 days after the procedure.

If your symptoms do not improve or worsen, please contact your doctor.

Eating after the procedure

  • do not eat for 2 hours after the procedure,
  • hot foods should be avoided as they may increase post-operative swelling and bleeding,
  • semi-liquid and soft foods should be consumed,
  • remember not to take your medication with dairy products or fruit juices, as they interfere with the absorption of medicinal products, reducing their effectiveness; it is best to consume these products a few hours before or after taking the medicine.
  • For 2-3 days after the procedure, you should:

    • avoid physical exertion,
    • smoking is also strictly prohibited,
    • avoid vigorous rinsing of the mouth.

    Post-treatment oral hygiene:

    • avoid brushing your teeth in the area of the surgical site, as recommended by your doctor,
    • in order to maintain proper oral hygiene during this time, it is necessary to use mouthwashes containing chlorhexidine, e.g. Corsodyl, Eludril, as well as gels, e.g. Elugel.

    Sutures

    • Sutures are usually removed 10 days after the procedure.

After the implant procedure, please follow our recommendations carefully:

  • maintain perfect oral hygiene, avoid brushing the area until the stitches are removed (clean the rest of the mouth as usual),
  • use mouthwashes containing chlorhexidine, e.g. Corsodyl, Eludril… as well as gels, e.g. Elugel… for 14 days,
  • after the stitches have been removed, gently brush the operated area with a suitable toothbrush,
  • do not use dentures for 12-14 days – after this period, the dentures should be adjusted to the new anatomical conditions,
  • it is recommended to consume liquid and semi-liquid foods,
  • bruising and haematomas on the skin of the face are a natural complication that may occur after some procedures.

The first two weeks of healing have a significant impact on the success of the entire treatment process, so please follow all of our recommendations carefully.

Schedule of follow-up appointments after implant placement (unless otherwise recommended by your doctor):

  • 1 day after the procedure,
  • 8-10 days after surgery (removal of stitches),
  • 12-14 days – adjustment of dentures,
  • 4 subsequent check-ups every 4 weeks during the healing period, which is 3-4 months for the lower jaw and 6-9 months for the upper jaw,
  • standard check-ups at the dentist’s office every 6 months.
